‘Will never forgive Poch for this’ – Some Spurs fans react to player’s revelation

Some Spurs fans on social media have stated that they will never forgive Mauricio Pochettino for starting Harry Kane ahead of Lucas Moura in the Champions League final in 2019 after the Brazilian opened up on the disappointment he felt at being left out of the starting lineup.

Moura’s sensational second-half hattrick in the second leg of the Champions League semifinal against Ajax helped Spurs achieve one of the most historic come-from-behind wins to seal their passage to the final.

Given the winger’s brilliant display in Amsterdam and the fact that Kane was recovering from an ankle injury, many would have expected Moura to start against Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

However, Pochettino decided to bring Kane back into the starting lineup, with Moura having to settle for a place on the bench.

This week, the former PSG man admitted in an interview to ESPN Brasil (via Sport Witness) that the Argentine coach only informed him in the last team meeting that he had not made the starting eleven.

Reacting to Moura’s words, some Spurs fans insisted that Pochettino made a huge mistake by benching the 29-year-old.

They suggested that he could have started in place of Dele Alli or Christian Eriksen even if the former Spurs boss was keen to bring Kane back into the team.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is easy to criticise these sorts of decisions in hindsight. However, the reality is that most of us wanted Kane to start at the time. In fact, I believe the backlash would have been much bigger had Pochettino benched Kane and Spurs had lost 2-0.
