‘Will only get better’ – Some Spurs fans delighted with club’s contract announcement

Some Tottenham fans on social media are over the moon to hear that Japhet Tanganga has committed his future to the club.

Spurs confirmed today that the youngster has penned a new contract with the club that runs until 2025.

After breaking into the Tottenham first-team back in January, the young defender not only showcased his terrific physical attributes and technical quality but also a great temperament.

A back stress fracture has prevented him from being involved since the restart but the 21-year-old did make the bench for Tottenham’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Sunday after revering from the injury.

It was reported a couple of weeks ago that Spurs and Tanganga’s representatives could not agree on the terms of a new contract, despite extensive negotiations (The Athletic).

However, the club now have made a breakthrough and singed the academy graduate for the next five years.

Some Spurs fans are convinced that the youngster is going to develop into a top defender under the watchful eyes of Ledley King, who Jose Mourinho confirmed will be joining his coaching staff next season (Sky Sports).

Spurs Web Opinion

This really is fantastic news and Tanganga’s emergence could potentially save us millions in the transfer market this summer. Despite Jan leaving and Foyth looking like he is also on his way out, I do not believe a centre-back is a priority for us this summer.

Dier, Alderweireld and Sanchez were all excellent after the restart while Tanganga has shown enough promise to suggest that he can be the fourth choice centre half, while also covering for both full-back positions.
