William Gallas has claimed Tottenham do not have a strong enough squad to finish in the top four this season and urges chairman Daniel Levy to back Antonio Conte in the summer transfer window.
Spurs have struggled to register any form in recent weeks and were condemned to a third straight Premier League defeat by Wolves last Sunday.
The result has left the club eighth in the table and seven points off Manchester United who occupy the final Champions League place, but have three games in hand over the Red Devils.
Conte later admitted that he felt the commitment from his team was not enough and also questioned whether his players possessed a mentality to win (The Athletic).
Ex-Spurs centre-back Gallas believes the current Spurs squad is not up to scratch to reach the top four, but has called for chief Levy to give full backing to the Italian in this summer’s transfer window.
Gallas told bet365 (via The Sun): “I think Conte doesn’t have the right players. He doesn’t have the right players for the top four places. He needs more time to build his squad.
“He knows exactly which type of player he’ll need to sign for next season and the chairman needs to give him the budget and opportunity to get these players Conte wants in.

“Tottenham should have ambitions of the top four and in time, winning the league.
“Top players are expensive these days so they need to get a handle of their scouting network and bring in talent who can contribute without the weight of expectation on them.
“We’ve seen how massive fees can affect players like Harry Maguire.”

The summer transfer window is the time that Spurs need to really address the squad’s problems. The winter saw a couple of incomings and plenty of outgoing who weren’t having a positive impact on the squad, but the end of the season is likely to be the key point of Conte’s tenure.
