William Gallas has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur will face a big fight to squeeze into the top four this season, with Manchester United breathing down their necks.

Tottenham finished fifth in 2023/24

Ange Postecoglou is clearly setting his sights much higher than just a top-four finish, telling Men in Blazers earlier this week that he is looking at ways to catch Manchester City and Arsenal, and also admitting that success this season would involve winning silverware.

However, the Premier League is as competitive as it has ever been and most pundits do not seem to consider Spurs as favourites to qualify for the Champions League (Premierleague.com).

While Tottenham have done some smart business this summer, Spurs fans will be a lot more confident about the club’s chances of having a successful season if they can bring another couple of top players through the door before the window shuts.

William Gallas thinks Spurs could make top four

Gallas expects it to be quite tight near the top of the table, hinting that Postecoglou’s men will once again be battling it out for fourth place.

The Frenchman told The Mirror: “I think it will be really competitive to finish in the top four this season. One thing is for sure, we know that Arsenal and Manchester City will be there, so it only leaves two places with several clubs fighting for those coveted positions.

“I think Liverpool will be in the mix. They have a new manager, but all the players understand the demands of managing both competitions.

“I would put them in the top four again for this season. I think Tottenham could be there. Manchester United could maybe be there, but I have a lot of doubts about them.”

Pundits keep talking about the top four when there could theoretically be five Champions League places up for grabs.

One would not expect English clubs to have a stinker in Europe again this season, which is why a fifth would likely be enough to get into Europe’s premier competition.
