William Gallas claims Tottenham ‘will be champions’ if they keep three players fit

Former Tottenham defender Willian Gallas has boldly predicted that Tottenham Hotspur will win the Premier League title if they can keep Harry Kane, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Hugo Lloris fit for the rest of the season.

Spurs were still considered by many pundits as pretenders rather than contenders a couple of weeks ago but after taking four points in two difficult matches against Manchester City and Chelsea, without conceding a single goal, that perception is starting to change.

Gallas, who has the rare distinction of having played for Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal was certainly not among those who doubted Tottenham’s title credentials.

The former centre-back declared ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Stamford Bridge last Sunday that the Premier League title was going to won either by Jose Mourinho’s or Frank Lampard’s side.

However, it turns out that the Frenchman was not particularly impressed with the lack of passion on show in the London derby, admitting that both sets of players had too much respect for each other.

Gallas wrote on his latest Instagram post: “Being a football fan, I was still disappointed by this derby. I know there is no atmosphere in the stadium due to the Covid but I would have liked to see more commitment and intensity from the players.

“I find that the players respect each other a little too much. I would like to see derby again like in the late 90’s or even early 2000. That’s what made the beauty of the Premier League.

“Normally Chelsea should win this game as they played at home and are of a higher level individually compared to the Tottenham players. They miss a player who can make a difference at any time.

“Apart from the errors of the central defender Joe Rodon Tottenham defended very well as a team. After this match, the Tottenham players are aware that this season may be their year to win the Premier League.

“For my part, Tottenham will be champion this season if their key players (Harry Kane, Hojbjerg, Lloris) don’t get injured.”
