Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have joked that the North Londoners will have to win the league title this season in order to compensate for the potential losses over the next year.
Tottenham confirmed today that they have made a loss of £63.9m in the year ending June 2020, compared to a £68.6m profit for the previous 12 months.
The figure is mainly down to the reduction in matchday and broadcast revenue, which has come at a difficult time for the club as they are still paying the interest on the loans borrowed for the construction of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Worryingly, Daniel Levy revealed that the club estimates a potential loss of over £150m next season if fans are not allowed to attend matches for the rest of the campaign.
While some fans were concerned that this might mean there will be no significant investment into the squad over the next few transfer windows, others joked that Jose Mourinho’s men could compensate for the loss with Premier League prize money.
