Winks and Gollini reveal 24-year-old Spurs star is often last to leave training

Pierluigi Gollini and Harry Winks have both revealed that Joe Rodon is one of the hardest-working players in training among the Tottenham squad.

Rodon has hardly had any opportunities since Antonio Conte took over at Tottenham at the start of November.

With Eric Dier arguably having his most consistent season in a Tottenham shirt yet and making the central sweeper role his own, the 24-year-old has endured a frustrating spell on the bench.

Rodon demonstrated his qualities in Wales’ 2-1 win over Austria last Thursday, putting in a solid defensive display to help his county move a step closer to World Cup qualification.

Wales boss Robert Page revealed that Antonio Conte was impressed with the centre-back’s performance (Wales Online).

According to both Gollini and Winks, Rodon remains one of the most committed players in training despite his lack of game time this season.

Both players named the former Swansea man when asked who among the Spurs squad is last to leave the training field.

When the question was put to Gollini, he told Tottenham’s official Twitter account (via Football.London): “Me, [Pierre Emile] Hojbjerg and Rodon.

“It’s us three that always leave the latest and I think often I’m the last one but if it’s not me, it’s one of those two guys.”

Winks answered: “Joe Rodon’s out a lot. He works a lot on some of his passing onto the net after training. Harry Kane on his finishing as well, he stays out quite a bit. I think it depends on the session.

“If it’s been a hard session, I think a lot of the boys just walk straight in and get ready to have a nice bath and get a massage.”

The fact that Rodon is committed to improving his game in every training session despite not getting too many opportunities, sheds a light on the type of character the 24-year-old is. Perhaps, that would convince Conte that the centre-back could have a future in North London.
