Winks backs Spurs team-mate is training hard despite speculation over future

Harry Winks has admitted that Dele Alli’s teammates at Tottenham are fully behind the midfielder and believe that he will bounce back from the difficult time that he is going through.

The 24-year-old has been left out of Tottenham’s last two matchday squads and reports have indicated that he has offered to clubs around Europe (Fabrizio Romano).

The Telegraph claimed on Tuesday that there is an increasing acceptance at Spurs that Alli might need a loan move to rejuvenate his career, with Paris Saint-Germain said to be interested in taking him on loan.

However, Jose Mourinho has insisted that he expects the England international to stay at the club beyond the end of the transfer window.

When Winks was asked how Alli has responded in training to being dropped, he told Football.London: “Yes, he’s responded really well. He’s been training really hard.

“We’ve obviously had a busy couple of weeks with a lot of matches. The boys who have been playing have been on recovery and the others have been training.

“From what we’ve been watching and hearing, everyone around is positive and they’ve all been working hard and Dele is no different. He’s been training really well.”

The midfielder confidently backed the former MK Dons man will to get back to his best form soon.

Winks added: “Dele is a top player and you don’t get to the level he’s got to through luck. You get there through hard work and great ability as well.

“It might be a dip in confidence, I don’t know the situation, but he is a fantastic player and a top pro as well. I am sure everybody in the team will back me in saying he will get back to his best form – he will do.”

Jose’s decision to leave Dele out of the last two squads will not only serve as a wake-up call to the midfielder but also to the other players in the dressing room. It sends a message that no player is undroppable if they are not performing consistently. Hopefully, Dele will respond by showing Jose what he can do when he gets his opportunities.
