Winks: I am just over the moon

Harry Winks was delighted to have scored his first Tottenham goal on his first Premier League start for the club in the comeback victory over West Ham.

The 20-year-old cancelled out Michail Antonio’s opener which sparked wild celebrations from both player and manager on the touchline but it almost came to nothing when Manuel Lanzini restored the Hammers’ lead from the penalty spot.

Harry Kane scored a late brace including a stoppage-time spot-kick to win the match and extend Spurs’ unbeaten start to the league campaign.

Winks told BT Sport of his first start in England’s top flight: “I was so excited. I couldn’t wait to go out there and play.

“For me after I scored it was just a blur. It was brilliant. I thought all the lads were brilliant today but for me I am just over the moon still. I’m just going to see my family and celebrate with them.”

Matchwinner Harry Kane said: “What a win. It looked like it was going to be a disappointing night for us.

“I thought we played well, dominated the ball but just needed to create the clear-cut chances – we left it late but what a night, what a performance.

“That’s what it is about, digging deep, fighting for each other and to get the three points is amazing.

“It’s an important week for us, we didn’t want to lose the first game of the week.

“It gives us a big high going into that game (against Monaco in the Champions League) full of confidence – it’s a must-win.”
