‘Without him Spurs wouldn’t have won’ – Redknapp on club’s most influential player

Jamie Redknapp praised the influence of Christian Eriksen after the dramatic Spurs win against Aston Villa last night. Redknapp was impressed by Eriksen’s substitute appearance and stated that (Sky Sports): ‘Until Eriksen came onto the field I didn’t see Spurs winning that game’.

‘When he came onto the pitch the tempo changed, the pace of passing’. Redknapp then went on to say that he believed the comeback was ‘more to do with him (Eriksen) than anything else’. This shows the quality that Eriksen provided after he came on.

Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to leave Eriksen on the bench yesterday surprised Spurs fans and could be taken as a sign that the Danish playmaker may still leave this summer. After his performance today it is clear that losing him would be a big loss to Spurs. When Eriksen doesn’t play they lack creativity and struggle to break teams down.

Eriksen’s been linked with a move away from North London all summer after publicly admitting he wanted ‘a new challenge’ (The Guardian).  Towards the end of the transfer window it looked like he may make a shock move to Manchester United (BBC Sport). However it is still possible for a foreign club to buy the player. This means that the next month will be tense for Spurs fans!

Last night’s game showed why Eriksen is irreplaceable to Spurs. He provides creative quality that no-one else at the club can match, because of this I would be gutted if we lose him this summer. However, if a good bid comes in we may have to accept it rather than lose the player for free. Hopefully new signing Giovani Lo Celso will be able to help add creativity to Spurs attack!
