Wojciech Szczesny provides excuse for conceding Harry Kane’s wonder goal

With the score level at 2-2 between Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus in the pre-season game in Singapore on Sunday, Harry Kane produced a moment of magic in stoppage time as he somehow managed to lob Wojciech Szczesny in the Juve goal from just inside of the Italian’s half.

It was quite a sublime piece of skill from Kane considering that he was almost surrounded by defenders and had to make the decision very quickly.

While Spurs fans were delighted with the effort from the England captain, it added another layer of satisfaction in that he had embarrassed Szczesny who is formerly of Arsenal.

The former Gunners stopper has now come up with an excuse for why he was beaten from the halfway line by the Spurs striker.

The 29-year-old said that the mistake was a consequence of him getting used to a new system under new manager Maurizio Sarri, in which the goalkeeper is required to play quite high up the pitch.

According to the Metro, Szczesny said: “The goalkeeping role has changed with a high defensive line.

“Now we need to be higher up the pitch, it’s a new system of play that needs a bit of time to find the right balance.

“We are working hard to get it right.”

One cant lay too much blame on the feet of Szczesny as it was quite a sensational effort by Harry Kane. However, the former Arsenal man could have certainly shown a little bit more humility by praising Kane for the quality of the effort.
