Wolfsburg managing director for sport, Jorg Schmadtke, has said that he expects rumoured Tottenham target Maxence Lacroix to stay at the club beyond the summer.

Spurs are reportedly prioritising strengthening at centre-back this summer, with Fabio Paratici currently thought to be in talks for several players across Europe.

Lacroix, who enjoyed an impressive debut season in German football after making the move to Wolfsburg 12 months ago, is one of the central defenders rumoured to be in the Italian’s sights.

Previous reports from Germany have suggested that Tottenham are competing with RB Leipzig for the 21-year-old.

It has been alleged that Leipzig have offered £17.16m (€20m) for the centre-back but Wolfsburg are said to be holding out for a fee of around £25.7m (€30m).

Meanwhile, Tottenham’s London rivals, Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the Frenchman.

However, Schmadtke has now suggested that he does not expect Lacroix to leave the Volkswagen Arena this summer.

He told Kicker (as relayed by BuliNews): “It’s important that we now have more alternatives.”

Asked if Lacroix will stay, the Wolfsburg chief said: “I assume so.”

At this point, it is anybody’s guess who Paratici’s number one centre-back target is given the number of players we have been linked with. Lacroix certainly fits the profile of a typical Tottenham signing given his age and high ceiling. The youngster is also likely to be within the club’s price range.
