Wolves might not need to sell Pedro Neto to Spurs or Arsenal – Sky journalist

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has said that Wovles’ financial situation might not be as precarious as some sources have reported and the club might not need to sell rumoured Tottenham target Pedro Neto in the summer.

Over the last month, a whole host of outlets have suggested that Ange Postecoglou wants to sign a top-quality winger in the summer, with Neto said to be one of the names at the top of his wishlist (The Independent).

This was also backed up a little over a week ago by Fabrizio Romano, who stated on The Here We Go Podcast that Spurs are big fans of the Portuguese international.

While talking about Tottenham’s pursuit of the 23-year-old, both TEAMtalk and Football Insider have claimed recently that Wolves need to raise significant amounts of funds through player sales in order to make sure they do not breach the Premier League’s financial rules.

Wolves may not be desperate to sell Pedro Neto

However, Sheth believes that might not be the case any longer, with the journalist pointing to Gary O’Neil’s defiant tone on the winger.

The Sky reporter told GiveMeSport: “I think there will be a lot of suitors for Neto, but he still has a contract until 2027. I think the rhetoric has changed at Wolves because when Gary O’Neil joined the club, they had to sell players. They had to raise enough funds to comply with profit and sustainability rules.

“That has changed because when O’Neil is asked questions about transfers, he admits that clubs will be interested in players like Pedro Neto because of his quality. But he’s almost saying they don’t need to sell players this time because, as far as he knows, the Wolves are in a good financial position. They’re not in that position they were last summer when they almost had to sell players. But of course, money will talk.”

While Wolves might not be in a Chelsea-like situation where they have to raise funds just to comply with PSR, the Midlands club would have to sell a few players if O’Neill wants to pursue his summer targets. I thus see the club cashing in on Neto, particularly with the player appearing to have his heart set on a big move.
