‘Wolves playing hardball’ – Journalist reveals chances of Doherty-Traore swap deal

The Athletic’s Wolves correspondent Tim Spiers has revealed that Matt Doherty is unlikely to return to the Molineux Stadium as part of the deal to bring Adama Traore to Spurs.

The speculation linking Adama Traore with a move to Spurs has gone into hyperdrive over the last week, with Antonio Conte alleged to view the pacey wide man as a perfect fit for the right-wing-back role in his system.

The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has reported that Tottenham are prepared to offer Doherty to Wolves as part of the deal, just 18 months on from the right-back’s move to Spurs.

However, Spiers has now responded to Pitt-Brooke’s article, insisting that Bruno Lage’s side are unlikely to re-sign the Republic of Ireland international without selling Nelson Semedo.

The journalist added that Traore is not expected to sign a new deal at Wolves and that the 25-year-old will likely leave either this month or in the summer.

Spiers also revealed the Spain international’s contract negotiations with Wolves have been dragging on for 15 months, with the player wanting to become one of the highest-paid players at the West Midlands club.

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like Traore’s move to Spurs is very much on the cards but the North London club might have to find a different buyer for Matt Doherty.

One would expect a few Premier League clubs to show interest in the 29-year-old given how well he was performing for Wolves until his move to Spurs.
