Woman jailed for £152k blackmailing attempt on Tottenham legend Heung-min Son

Tottenham legend Heung-min Son was the victim of attempted blackmail, but the perpetrator has been put behind bars.

News first broke back in May that the former Tottenham captain was the target of an extortion attempt.

The report, which came from Yonhap News, claimed at the time that Son contacted the Korean police, alleging that a man and woman attempted to blackmail him.

The Tottenham Hotspur legend was allegedly approached by a woman claiming that she was pregnant with his child, with the woman thought to have first reached out to Son last June.

She and a man, who is believed to be one of her acquaintances, then allegedly approached the then-Spurs star again in March, demanding money in exchange for silence.

Four-year sentence handed out after Heung-min Son blackmail attempt

Sky News have now revealed that the woman, identified as Yang, was charged with extorting 300m won (£152,000) from Son in 2024.

She sent the 33-year-old an ultrasound of a baby, which she claimed was his and demanded money to stay silent.

The Seoul Central District Court had concluded that Yang had “lied” to Son, and after confessing to the crime, she was sentenced to four years in prison for trying to blackmail the former Tottenham man.

Happy Tottenham homecoming for Son on Tuesday

The South Korean will be relieved that justice has prevailed ahead of his return to Tottenham on Tuesday.

Son will be the special guest during Tottenham’s home match against Slavia Prague, with the 33-year-old admitting that it will be ’emotional’ to meet his former teammates and the supporters again.

A mural is being created for Son on the Tottenham High Road for the forward’s outstanding service to the club.
