‘Won’t be happy’ – Dele Alli comments on Tottenham’s top four hopes

While Dele Alli backs Tottenham Hotspur to pip Aston Villa to a fourth-place finish this season, he suggests that his former club will not be satisfied with just being back in the Champions League and will want to kick on.

Some Spurs fans might have been relatively confident of securing fourth ahead of last weekend but the 4-0 loss to Newcastle would have certainly disabused them of the notion that it is going to be a walk in the park.

That is the second embarrassing defeat Ange Postecoglou’s men have had away from home in the space of a month and following Villa’s win at the Emirates on Sunday, it meant that they slipped back down to fifth.

While the Lilywhites do have a game in hand over the Midlands club, they also have a difficult end to the season as they are yet to play all three of the title contenders and are also due to make a trip to Stamford Bridge.

Dele Alli hopes Spurs can finish in the top four

When Dele was asked if he expects his former side to finish fourth, he told Sky Sports’ MNF (as relayed by Football.London): “Yeah, I hope so. It’s a tough run of games but for me, it’s been great.

“I don’t know how the Tottenham fans will see the season if they don’t finish in the top four, but for me watching, obviously having played for Tottenham and having a connection to the club, watching them play football and football I like to see Tottenham play, that for me is good but I know the club won’t be happy with the top four.”

Jamie Carragher pointed out that Spurs may be hoping that their fellow Premer League sides do them a favour in Europe so that finishing fifth might be enough to get into the competition.

He added: “I think what is really interesting with this, what happens in midweek in Europe is going to have a huge bearing on this as well and will the English clubs will they get through, certainly against German opposition when you look at Arsenal against Bayern Munich. That could be a big problem in terms of whether we get four places or five in the Champions League.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the form we have shown over the last couple of months, we do not deserve to be in the Champions League. Teams have figured out methods to nullify our system and unless Postecoglou reacts and finds a solution, we are going to have to make do with Europa League football.
