World Cup winner claims Spurs and Arsenal-linked forward is ready for next step

France legend Bixente Lizarazu has lavished praise on rumoured Tottenham target Elye Wahi, insisting that the Montpellier starlet is ready to move to a competition such as the Premier League.

Despite being just 20 years of age, Wahi already has over two years of first-team experience under his belt at Montpellier and is considered by many to be one of the best attacking talents in French football at the moment.

The centre-forward, who is also capable of operating on either flank, has 10 goal contributions to his name in 21 Ligue 1 appearances so far in 2022-23 and a call-up to the Les Blues set-up seems just around the corner for the youngster.

Telefoot reporting two weeks ago Wahi’s performances had caught Tottenham’s attention, with the Lilywhites said to be keeping a close eye on the youngster ahead of the summer transfer window.

The publication added that Spurs could face competition from their North London rivals, Arsenal, as well as from Borussia Dortmund for the striker but Christian Falk subsequently revealed to CaughtOffside a few days ago that the Bundesliga club had pulled out of the race.

Lizarazu believes that the time has come for Wahi to leave Montpellier for a bigger challenge.

When asked about the speculation over the youngster’s future, the former Bayern Munich man has now told Foot Sur 7: “(Wahi) has great athletic qualities.

“He runs very fast, he is very lively, very skilful in front of goal.

“If he makes the right choices (he can go far).

“When I hear about Arsenal or Dortmund, I consider that it would be a good choice for a young player to go to these clubs.

“(Wahi must) progress further, even if, with Montpellier, he has already made enormous progress.

“It is rare to have attackers so young and so precocious. There is an additional level to go to, probably abroad.”

We know from Tottenham’s acquisition of Pape Matar Sarr that Paratici’s network of scouts are keeping a close eye on the best-emerging talent from France.

Perhaps, Spurs will look to do a similar deal to the Sarr one by proposing to sign Wahi and loan him back to Montpellier for a season.
