Worrying statistic emerges for Spurs in Europe after 2-0 Sporting defeat

Tottenham Hotspur are now without a win in their last six European away games following the 2-0 defeat to Sporting Lisbon this evening.

It was a typical Tottenham performance across the 90 minutes, with Conte’s side starting slowly and struggling to break down a stubborn defence to create clear opportunities.

The only difference this evening was that Tottenham were unable to carve out any points from the fixture, sending Sporting top of Group D.

Tottenham struggled away from home last season in the Europa Conference League too, drawing 2-2 against Rennes, losing 1-0 to Vitesse, and even losing 2-1 away to NS Mura before crashing out at the group stages.

Spurs also lost away to Pacos de Ferreira in their first-leg play-off round, before putting three past the minnows at home.

Finally, Tottenham crashed out of the Europa League in the knockouts against Dinamo Zagreb in 2021, losing 3-0 despite heading into the tie with a 2-0 aggregate lead.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Getting results away from home is a good habit to get into, and one that has eluded Spurs over the past three seasons. Spurs are going to have to get results against Frankfurt and Marseille now if they wish to push for the Group D top spot.
