‘Would be sad to see him go’ – Robinson fears writing is on the wall for Spurs star

Paul Robinson believes Harry Winks will have to leave Tottenham if he is going to reignite his international career after the midfielder was left out of the latest England squad.

Winks has struggled to get a run in the side this season and looks a long way off establishing himself in the starting eleven.

The midfielder has struggled to impose himself on games when opportunities have come his way, being part of the side who were humiliated in the Europa League tie at Dinamo Zagreb.

The Spurs academy graduate has found himself having to watch the current triple header of England fixtures which is the last action the Three Lions will see until June.

Gareth Southgate explained that the reason for Winks missing out was due to his lack of Premier League action at Spurs but insisted that the midfielder can play himself back into the squad.

However, Robinson is not convinced that Winks will get back into the international set up unless he leaves the North Londoners.

The former Tottenham goalkeeper told Football Insider: “It has been a very interesting three or four months for Harry Winks.

“He has not made it into the England squad and he has not had anywhere near as much game time this season as he would have liked.

“He is another one who started in Zagreb but dropped out of the squad at Aston Villa.

“He could be a victim of circumstance but, if he wants to play regularly and get back into the international side, it is not looking like it is going to be at Spurs.

“I think he is an amazing player though so I would be sad to see him go.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Winks looks certain to leave Spurs in the summer and the only thing that could potentially save him is if Mourinho gets sacked. With us being eliminated from the Europa League, I cannot see him getting much game time until the end of the season.
