‘Would be unbelievable’ – Pundit reacts to reports claiming Mourinho wants midfielder at Spurs

Former Hull City striker Dean Windass has backed Tottenham Hotspur to bring Luka Modric back to the Premier League, insisting that the Croatian international would be an excellent addition to Jose Mourinho’s side.

It was at Tottenham that Modric built a reputation as one of the best central midfielders in world football after he enjoyed four outstanding seasons at White Hart Lane following his arrival from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2008.

His performances eventually attracted interest from Real Madrid in 2012, with Mourinho being the man who took the midfielder to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Modric will undoubtedly go down as one of the best players in Real Madrid’s history, having won four Champions League titles and two La Liga’s during his eight and a half years at the club.

Reports from Spain last week claimed that Mourinho has contacted Modric about potentially returning to Tottenham (Chiringuito TV).

Even at 35 years of age, Windass believes that the former Ballon d’Or winner will be a useful addition for Spurs.

When asked about Modric’s potential return to North London, the pundit told Football Fancast: “Say no more. That would be unbelievable, wouldn’t it?

“That would strengthen the side. Would he come back? I don’t know what relationship he had [with Jose].

“Listen, he’s a great player isn’t he, wow. Hopefully yeah, we all want to see the best players in the Premier League, and he’s certainly one of them.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Modric has shown this season that even at 35 years of age, he still has the legs to play ninety minutes and perform at a decent level. There is no doubt that he could potentially be a useful asset for us, particularly in games where we are looking to keep hold of the possession or see out leads. Someone like Harry Winks could also learn a lot from training with the Croatian legend.
