‘Would fit very well’ – Bergwijn wants rumoured Spurs target to join him at Ajax

Steven Bergwijn has admitted he would love Memphis Depay to join him at Ajax amidst speculation former club Tottenham are interested in signing the Barcelona forward.

Fresh off their acquisitions of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, Barca could be forced to sacrifice the Netherlands international (The Guardian) after just one season at the Camp Nou.

Spanish outlet Sport recently claimed Spurs have emerged as potential suitors and are willing to pay €17 million (£14.5m) for his services, although a price tag has reportedly been set north of that at €20 million (£17m).

But Spurs moving for Depay could be complicated by Bergwijn, who has weighed in his thoughts on where his former PSV Eindhoven teammate should go this summer.

Leaving north London to join Ajax, Bergwijn has since admitted he would be keen for his compatriot to follow in his footsteps and also make the switch to the Amsterdam Arena.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, he said: “Memphis Depay to Ajax would be very nice.

“I think Memphis would fit very well here in terms of his style of play. Is it realistic? I don’t know. Of course, I would welcome it because we have had a great bond since our time together at PSV Eindhoven.”

Even though it would be a decent move for Spurs, it is not the type of transfer that really makes sense for the club at the moment.

But with that said, a move to Ajax and his homeland of the Netherlands could very well be something of interest to Depay if it is available to him.
