‘Would work’ – Pundit suggests Spurs and Chelsea duo should swap clubs this summer

Mark Lawrenson has suggested Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku should swap clubs between Tottenham and Chelsea this summer.

Both strikers have gone through mixed periods of form at their respective teams this season despite recording stellar campaigns last time out.

Lukaku has failed to demonstrate why Chelsea shelled out over £97 million to re-sign him from Inter Milan (BBC Sport), having scored just five Premier League goals in 17 appearances so far (Transfermarkt).

A similar thing could have been said about Tottenham talisman Kane, who struggled to get going in the early parts of the season after coming off the back of a defeat in the final at Euro 2020 and a failed move to Manchester City (Sky Sports).

But the England captain has seen performances lift in recent weeks and was at the forefront of an inspired Spurs side which beat league leaders City 3-2 on Saturday. Unfortunately, he was unable to score against Burnley in the 1-0 defeat last night though.

Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson touched upon the idea of a swap deal for both hitmen at the end of the season, but admitted such moves would not happen due to the obvious rivalry between both sides.

Lawrenson told Off The Ball: “I said about Lukaku and Kane, what about this swap in the summer.

“Lukaku goes to Tottenham to play with Conte again. And Kane goes to Chelsea. I don’t think it will ever happen because they hate each other, don’t they? But I was just looking at the way that the two strikers were playing.

“Before Saturday, Kane had been struggling. We could say the same thing about him: ‘Was he thinking about last summer?’ How he didn’t go to Man City. And is he thinking about the summer coming up where he could leave?

“The swap for the two would work for fun. But I think Lukaku will be gone in the summer and Chelsea will re-invest.”

Kane to Chelsea and Lukaku to Spurs would just never happen. Kane is more valuable to his club than Lukaku is to his, plus the rivalry between both teams won’t be put aside for an alleged blockbuster swap like this.
