‘Wouldn’t be accepted here’ – Forest boss reacts to Richarlison showboating

Nottingham Forest boss, Steve Cooper, was far from impressed with Richarlison’s showboating against his side this evening as Tottenham played out a 2-0 win over the newly-promoted club.

Richarlison came off the bench in the second half to replace Heung-min Son and added some fresh legs to the Spurs attack. He certainly made an impact when he found Kane at the back post with an outside-the-boot cross to make it 2-0 to Tottenham.

However, the Brazilian then caused controversy when he chose to showboat in the Nottingham Forest final third, doing keepy-uppies on the wing for a few seconds before giving the ball away.

Richardson was then chopped down by Brennan Johnson, likely in retaliation to such clear showboating, which is often deemed unsporting in football when done so blatantly.

When asked about the incident after the final whistle, Steve Cooper claimed he would never allow any of his players to showboat.

He said (Jonathan Veal): “I wouldn’t want my players to do that, what Richarlison did. If that is accepted at Spurs that is nothing to do with me but it wouldn’t be accepted here.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I can’t say I’m a fan of this type of showboating. Annoy the opposition by using your skills to get around them or keep the ball away from them, great! But keepy-uppies at 2-0 against a newly-promoted side before giving away possession isn’t for me.
