Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge has admitted that he is hopeful Hugo Lloris will stick around at Tottenham Hotspur for at least one or two more seasons.
Lloris has arguably been Tottenham’s most consistent goalkeeper during the Premier League era.
While the experienced shot-stopper does not have any silverware to show for his work in North London, he has led France to both the World Cup and the Nations League title.
The Tottenham skipper, who is now into his tenth season at the club, will be a free agent next summer unless he signs a new contract.
Multiple reports have backed the North London club to offer the goalkeeper a new deal, with Fichajes.net suggesting that a two-year contract could be in the offing for the 34-year-old.
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold also indicated recently that it is only a matter of time before the former Lyon man is offered an extension if he keeps performing with the same level of consistency.
Bridge believes that the Tottenham captain deserves a new contract on the back of the service he has given the Lilywhites over the years.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think he’s been a good servant for Tottenham, and I certainly wouldn’t be rushing to get rid of him.
“I hope Lloris stays for another couple of seasons, one more at least.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
Tottenham’s decision on whether to hand Lloris a new contract will not be an emotional one based on the service he has given the club.
It would have to be based on merit and the Frenchman has certainly demonstrated over the last couple of years that he remains one of the best shot-stoppers in the Premier League. So, there is no question that he is deserving of a new contract.
