Jamie Carragher believes it would be a no-brainer for Julian Nageslmann to choose the Chelsea job over the Tottenham one if both sides came calling.
Football Insider reported last week that Spurs have ‘cemented’ Nagelsmann as their top choice to replace Antonio Conte and that the club are prepared to wait until the summer to do what it takes to hire the recently departed Bayern Munich boss.
However, Bild reported on Thursday that the German had already turned down an approach from Tottenham and is now set to fly to London to hold face-to-face talks with Chelsea.
This claim was subsequently contradicted by The Daily Mirror, who stated on Friday morning that Spurs have ‘poured scorn’ on reports that Nageslmann has turned them down, with the North London said to be ‘keen to make a statement’ with their managerial appointment.
Carragher believes that the choice for the 35-year-old would prove straightforward if both the London clubs show interest.
The pundit said on The Overlap: “I think, if we’re being totally honest if a manager’s got an option between Chelsea and Spurs, I think he’s going to choose Chelsea in terms of giving them more chances of winning. Maybe there’s a bigger transfer kitty there.
“The fact that you’ve put Frank Lampard in tells me that they may have someone already lined up or that person wants to come in the summer.
“So that’s why they’ve put in a proper manager in some ways who’s had three or four jobs rather than Bruno [Saltor], who’s Graham Potter’s No.2.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if it came out in the next couple of weeks that Nagelsmann’s agreed to join Chelsea but he wants a bit of time out to get himself ready for the summer and wants a pre-season.”

Nagelsmann could well choose Chelsea over Spurs this summer but what some are failing to take into account is the fact that the Blues are not going to be able to spend big over the next few transfer windows, due to FFP regulations.
Their squad looks in need of serious surgery but they are not going to be able to sign another £200m worth of attacking talent this summer, and that will likely factor into Nagelsmann’s decision.
