‘Wow’ – Defender admits coming up against Spurs man gave him a reality check

Derby County defender Scott Malone has opened up on how difficult it was to come up against Harry Kane during his time in the Premier League with Huddersfield Town.

The left-back is currently on a season-long loan at Millwall, where he shares a dressing room with fellow loanee and Tottenham striker Troy Parrott.

He admitted that it was another Spurs forward in Kane who gave him a reality check about what it takes to make it as a Premier League player.

Malone has played in the Championship for the majority of his career but he did have a season in the Premier League with Huddersfield in 2017-18 after the Terriers won promotion to the top flight.

Kane has found the back of the net on more than one occasion against Huddersfield including a well-taken brace in a 4-0 win at the John Smith’s Stadium in September 2017.

Malone admitted that he was blown away by how Spurs and Kane punished every single mistake that the home side made in the opening minutes of that game.

The defender told News at Den: “You have to be switched on constantly, the slightest mistake and you get punished.

“I remember when we were 3-0 down to Spurs after about 25 minutes. Harry Kane got the ball three times and they scored three times. It was like, ‘wow’. You just can’t make a mistake.

“The demands are really tough.”
