Yaya Toure opens up on ‘busy’ Antonio Conte and working with Spurs academy

Yaya Toure has revealed he has not had time to sit down and chat with Antonio Conte yet because the Tottenham head coach is so busy.

Toure, 38, is working with Spurs as he looks to complete his coaching badges after retiring from football in 2019.

The Evening Standard revealed in December that the Ivorian completed an induction at Hotspur Way with coach Dean Rastrick before securing a role coaching in the club’s academy.

Although Toure does not have direct involvement with helping Conte in the first-team, he has revealed that he occasionally crosses paths with the 52-year-old at the club’s Enfield training base.

And while the former Manchester City midfielder says ‘hello’ to him in Italian, he has also explained that the pair have not managed to set time aside to have a proper conversation as of yet.

In an interview with The Times, Toure said: “He’s busy, I don’t think he has a lot of time for chatting.”

Toure’s time at the club so far has been spent helping Tottenham U18 manager Stuart Lewis on the way to earning his UEFA A-License.

With the side currently sitting 11th in the Premier League U18 southern division, he admits that he has been thoroughly impressed by a ‘smart and clever’ group of young players.

He added: “It’s important I go through the steps. I’m working with the academy now, it’s a nice step to learn.

“The Under-18s passion is incredible and they are so smart and so clever. You can set up tactics and one of them will ask a question you have not thought about.”

Toure will no doubt be having a positive influence on the younger players at Tottenham as his stellar career can be tapped into.

Hopefully, he does get a chance to eventually have a proper conversation with Conte, as the Italian will definitely be able to offer him plenty of advice going forward in terms of coaching and management.
