Yellow card update: Five Spurs stars are now just two bookings from suspension

Five Tottenham Hotspur stars are just two yellow cards away from serving a one-match suspension (Premier League).

Losing players to suspension is the last thing Ange Postecoglou wants at the moment considering the number of injuries he already has to contend with. This problem with absentees has already seen Spurs win just one point from their last five Premier League games.

James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Manor Solomon, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic are all currently injured and not in contention for selection against Newcastle United, or the foreseeable future.

Cristian Romero has just returned from a three-match suspension and Yves Bissouma just served a suspension for accumulating five yellow cards this season. But there could be more to follow soon.

Five players are one game away from a suspension

Having already served his suspension, Bissouma gives Postecoglou one lesser headache ahead of future games. The same cannot be said about Destiny Udogie, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Dejan Kulusevski, Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero and Pape Matar Sarr.

It is a Premier League rule that any player earning five bookings from the side’s first 19 league matches will have to serve a one-match ban in the competition.

Udogie is one yellow card away from a suspension while the other names on the list are two cards away from missing a game. All these players would need to be careful to not get into the referee’s book any time soon.

Postecoglou will be hoping that none of the above-mentioned players get yellow cards anytime soon. That said, in the heat of the moment, bookings become unavoidable. The best-case scenario for Spurs would be to not lose all those players at the same time. Let’s wait and see how this situation pans out.
