Yellow card update: Three Spurs stars are just a couple of bookings from suspension

According to the Premier League’s website, three Tottenham stars are now two yellow cards away from serving a one-match suspension.

Ange Postecoglou’s squad has been absolutely decimated by injuries, with the likes of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Pape Matar Sarr, Richarlison, Manor Solomon, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic all currently on the treatment table.

To make matters worse, Cristian Romero has also been suspended for the last two matches and will miss one more game while Yves Bissouma was also banned for the clash against Aston Villa after picking up five yellow cards.

Tottenham need to be careful with PL suspensions

While that means that Bissouma’s tally of yellow cards is no longer an immediate problem, Postecoglou does risk losing a few other players to suspension over the coming weeks.

Premier League rules state that any player earning five bookings from his side’s first 19 league matches will have to serve a one-match ban in the competition.

While Tottenham do not have anyone on four yellow cars, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Pape Mattar Sarr and Destiny Udogie all have three to their name.

That means that if any of these three players pick up two cautions within the next six matches, they will have to sit out one game.

Spurs Web Opinion

The last thing Postecoglou needs at the moment is any more suspensions or injuries, with the squad already down to its bare bones. It is going to be quite difficult for Tottenham to come through the next month relatively unscathed, although our fixture list does get relatively easier after the City clash.
