‘You are lucky’ – Ben Foster slams Conte for comments after Liverpool loss

Ben Foster has blasted Antonio Conte for his comments about the Tottenham fans jeering the team at half-time against Liverpool.

Tottenham did not have things their own way in the first half on Sunday and were 2-0 down at half-time after some lapses in concentration defensively, which Liverpool capitalised on.

The half-time whistle was met with a chorus of boos from some Spurs fans but the Lilywhites responded brilliantly in the second period and put Jurgen Klopp’s men under immense pressure.

In the end, the home side can consider themselves unfortunate at not taking a point from the game despite Harry Kane managing to pull one back on 70 minutes.

When asked about the boos at half-time Conte made it clear that fans have a right to express themselves but also admitted that he was disappointed at the reaction (Football.London).

The Spurs boss explained that Spurs have only just started on their process and that unless fans show some ‘patience’, the players and the coaching staff could ‘lose the enthusiasm’.

Foster interpreted those comments as Conte suggesting that he could be off at the end of the season if fans do not get behind him and the team.

The former West Brom goalkeeper said on his YouTube channel: “He (Conte) has done this already. And I don’t like this. After the game, Conte came out and he said basically if the fans are going to keep booing like they are doing, then we will have a look at it at the end of the season.

“I think personally you are lucky to be the manager at Spurs. I think Spurs are doing you a bit of a favour, so I don’t think how you can commentate that about Spurs.”

I think Conte was absolutely correct in sending the message he did to Spurs fans. For at least the last decade, boos have always been heard from a section of Tottenham’s home fans whenever we are behind at half-time.

While I can understand fans booing if the players do not put in 100 per cent effort, to simply boo and throw a tantrum when the result is not going the team’s way, is childish behaviour. It only further dents the confidence of the team and is the exact opposite of what the word ‘support’ entails.
