‘You can’t not’ – Agent says it would be foolish to leave Spurs player out of national team

Romanian agent, Victor Becali, has been speaking to the press back in his home country about Radu Dragusin, suggesting that the centre-back has to be on the plane for the Euros even though he is not getting minutes at Tottenham.

Dragusin would have certainly anticipated when he arrived at Tottenham that it would take time for him to dislodge either one of Cristian Romero or Micky van de Ven, and so it has proved.

The Argentine is the leader of the Tottenham backline and the club’s vice-captain while the Dutchman has been a revelation since arriving in the summer.

As a result, Dragusin is still waiting for his first start for the North London side and this has understandably led to some concerns in Romania, given that the European Championship is just around the corner.

A couple of weeks ago Pro Sport questioned whether the defender will be lacking some match sharpness heading into the tournament in Germany if he continues to warm the bench for Spurs.

Dragusin’s agent, Florian Manea, dismissed these concerns last week, telling Fanatik (via Playsport) that his client is training well and it is only a matter of time before he gets his opportunity.

Dragusin must be called up to Romania squad, says agent

Manea’s colleague, Becali, has now weighed in on the situation, insisting that the Tottenham centre-back should start for Romania in the Euros irrespective of what happens over the next few months.

He told Fanatik: “There have always been and will always be problems, but the important thing is that we are there, that we have qualified. Of course, now the selector’s problems.

“All selectors, when they arrive and when they settle in you know what they say…’With me, players who don’t play don’t come to the squad!’ But all the managers have had problems since we don’t have such a large pool of valuable players.

“For example, this boy, Dragușin… If he doesn’t play or plays less, because it’s normal after all, he went to a new team, he went to another league, a team that was formed, he needs time to become a starter… My opinion is that you can’t not call him up to the national team.”

The fact that Tottenham only have one game a week has not helped Dragusin’s chances of game time but I am certain that we will see the 22-year-old start a match sooner rather than later. Right now, the former Genoa man would still be adapting to the intricacies of Spurs’ system.
