‘You have conversations’ – Spurs youngster opens door to potential summer exit

Tottenham academy midfielder Matthew Craig has opened the door to a permanent move to Doncaster Rovers in the summer, admitting that he is enjoying his time at the League Two club.

Craig has come through the age group ranks at the Spurs academy and has gone on to impress for the Under-21 side over recent years.

There was a feeling last year that the 20-year-old was on the cusp of the first team, being handed his senior debut for the Lilywhites in the final game of last season, coming on for a 13-minute cameo off the bench.

That remains the defensive midfielder’s only first-team appearance to date, with the youngster not even making the matchday squad under Ange Postecoglou this season.

Spurs decided to loan Craig out to Doncaster in January and things have gone well for him at the South Yorkshire side, with the youngster having made 10 league appearances for the side, with a goal and an assist to his name (Transfermarkt).

Will Matthew Craig move away from Spurs this summer?

The midfielder has now opened the door to a permanent switch to the Eco-Power Stadium at the end of the season.

Craig told Yorkshire Post: “I’ve really liked it here. At the end of the season, we’ll see what Spurs say. You have conversations with Spurs about where they think is best for you. I’ve been lucky enough to come here and get some games.”

Tottenham would not want to let Craig go but with the midfielder turning 21 next month, he might feel that he is ready to play regular senior football. The club would be hoping they could convince the youngster to go on another loan next season, perhaps to a League One side.
