‘You have to believe’ – Paratici urges Spurs fans to create ‘family’ atmosphere

Fabio Paratici has spoken about the need to be balanced in assessing results and stressed the importance of creating a family atmosphere at Tottenham Hotspur.

It has been a whirlwind start to the campaign for Spurs, with the club winning their first three Premier League games of the season under Nuno Espirito Santo before falling to three successive top flight losses after the international break.

There was plenty of discontent among the Spurs fan base after the defeat in the North London derby two weeks ago, with the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust even calling for a meeting with the club’s executive board regarding concerns over the club’s long-term plan.

However, the win over an in-form Aston Villa side on Sunday has relieved some pressure on Nuno, with Tottenham now back up to eight, sitting just two points off fourth place.

Paratici has spoken about the need to look at the bigger picture instead of getting carried away by one or two results.

Tottenham’s managing director of football told Spurs TV: “In every season you have huge ups and downs. In this Premier League it is very difficult because the competition is so high and you can lose against everybody.

“Sometimes If you have matches in a row like every three days, sometimes it can happen that you can lose two or three games in a row.

“We have to be balanced, we have to be focused in our target, not in the small picture but in the big picture that is what the club are aiming for in the future in the project of the club.

“The work of the month is we have to be balanced. So we start one month and we have three very good results and then more this month maybe so and so.

“I think we are one step up, we are one step up because also the difficulties are important for to be something. Our project is a long-term project and we know what we have to do.”

Paratici also spoke about the need to create a family atmosphere at N17, with the club’s hierarchy, first-team management and fans singing from the same hymn sheet.

He added: “The big picture, that is the most important, this club has to be like a family. When you speak about the club you speak the club is like a family.

“If you are a family you need the support of everybody. If you want to achieve results you need players, coach, club and fans to be positive and every moment that maybe also is, I know more difficult when you lose one or two games, but you have to believe.

“You have to believe and to be positive because this feeling is transmitted to everybody, first of all the players. We have to think that the players feel what we think and what we feel. If the fans are a bit negative or maybe me I’m a bit worried, the players feel this and it’s not right.

“The players have to believe, we have to be positive, we have to think we can achieve, we have to be focused and we can achieve our targets.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do believe that the vast majority of Spurs fans understand that this is going to be a transitional season and are prepared to give Nuno time. However, extreme voices are amplified by social media, which is why there is so much negativity after individual results.
