‘You have to’ – One pundit is convinced Spurs are part of the PL title race

Steve Sidwell has said that at this moment, we have to include Tottenham Hotspur in the conversation about the Premier League title race, given the kind of football the Lilywhites are playing and the comradery within the Spurs camp.

It is fair to say that at the start of the season, even most Tottenham fans did not give the side much chance of finishing in the top four, with this campaign viewed by many as a transitional one.

However, Ange Postecoglou has been able to implement his style of play almost instantly, with all players seeming to understand their roles within the new system while the new signings have hit the ground running in North London.

To many people’s surprise, Spurs have won eight and drawn two of their first ten Premier League games and are arguably playing the best football across the division at the moment.

Are Tottenham really in the title race?

Sidwell believes that the change in the mood at Hotspur Way is down the players to enjoy their football again.

Speaking about the title race, the former Fulham man told No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast: “I think at the moment you have to put Spurs in that conversation. You have to put them into that bracket at the moment, what he has done there is phenomenal.

“You talk to the players and he’s just brought it back to basics. You can see what they’re trying to do, we get all that, but he’s telling them to go and play with freedom as well, and as a player, if you get the basics right and play with that freedom, it’s brilliant.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We are just over a quarter of the way into the season, which is why Ange and the Tottenham players have not been keen to talk about a potential tilt. This conversation can happen if we are still in touching distance of the likes of Man City at the halfway point of the season.
