‘You have to wonder’ – Some fans are not pleased to learn 23-year-old is missing against Stoke

Some Spurs fans on social media are not pleased to hear that Joe Rodon is not eligible to play in Tottenham’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Stoke City since he is cup-tied.

Rodon featured for Swansea City in their 2-0 first-round defeat to Newport County, which means that the 23-year-old cannot play for Spurs in this year’s competition (Wales Online).

The central defender was not signed in time to be included in Tottenham’s Europa League squad for the group stages, which meant that he could not get game time in Europe like some of the other younger squad players at the club such as Jack Clarke and Harvey White.

The Welshman’s only start since arriving at Spurs came in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last month.

Some Spurs fans on social media are wondering if it would have been better to loan him back to Swansea where he would have got more game time at the Championship club rather than warming the bench at Tottenham.

Others implored Mourinho to start Rodon in the Premier League fixture against Wolves at the weekend.

In hindsight, it might have been preferably to loan Rodon back to Swansea until January but the club obviously could not take that risk as it might have left them short in central defence in the event of a few injuries.
