“You might have to be naughty” – Lloris hints at a change of mentality at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris has revealed that his team-mates are prepared to win ugly this season under Jose Mourinho.

The Frenchman was captured on camera during Amazon’s All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur docuseries involved in a heated dressing room argument with Heung-min Son (talkSPORT).

The team-mates almost came to blows moments after the half-time whistle in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Everton in July after Lloris blamed the South Korean for not tracking back with defensive duties shortly before the opposition almost scored.

Lloris admitted that at times, an impressive performance is sometimes not enough to take all three points from a match and insists the players are ready to roll their sleeves up and get dirty for the cause.

Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho was seen in a team meeting which was recorded by Amazon’s cameras telling his players that good guys never win and they need to change their mentality on the pitch (Telegraph).

Lloris told The Guardian: “It can be true in football, you sometimes have to know how to win in the ugly way,”

“You don’t always need to play the fantastic game to win, you just need to know how to win. Particularly on a bad day, it helps if you still know how to win.

“That doesn’t mean you can’t be a good guy off the field, but when you are on the field you have to do everything you can. You might have to be naughty, to get the winning taste, but if you win that kind of game it makes you even stronger. You still need talent and team spirit and all the usual things, but sometimes that’s not enough. The manager is trying to instil a winning mentality, which is something we all have to follow.”
