ESPN Brazil journalist Natalie Gedra has revealed Emerson Royal told her that playing with Dejan Kulusevski is extremely easy thanks to the Swede’s intelligence.

Kulusevski has hit the ground running in the Premier League since arriving from Juventus in January and has outperformed the expectations of even the most optimistic Tottenham fans.

The 22-year-old has started the new season in fine form, demonstrating that his displays in the second half of last season were not just a flash in the pan.

However, the former Juve man has competition to contend with for his place in the starting eleven, with new signing Richarlison starting on the right in his place in Tottenham’s last two clashes against Fulham and Marseille.

Kulusevski demonstrated his versatility with a cameo as a right wing-back against Marseille last Wednesday, porviding a constant threat down the flank.

And now Gedra has revealed that Emerson is in awe of how mature the Tottenham winger is for his age.

The journalist joined host Danny Kelly and Charlie Eccleshare in this week’s The View From The Lane podcast, and said on the show: “I was actually talking to Royal the other day. He said ‘you wouldn’t believe how easy it is to play with Kulusevski because he’s so smart’.

“His vision and the way he sees the game, it’s quite impressive. Everyone seems impressed with him. Not only with his physicality because he’s big and sometimes because he’s so big and has this presence we forget that he’s a young player.

“But he is very smart and I told him he’s very young. And he [Emerson] was almost offended that ‘he’s younger than me’. He was like but he’s already so developed.”

There is no doubt that Spurs have hit the jackpot with Kulusevski. Not only is he technically gifted and always makes the right decision in possession, but he is also a tireless worker, who is always willing to put in a real shift off the ball. Given his age, he could develop into one of the best in the world over the coming years.
