Young keeper called up to replace injured Fraser Forster in Tottenham training

With Fraser Forster currently out with a long-term injury, Tottenham Hotspur youngster Aaron Maguire has been spotted in first-team training alongside his fellow goalkeepers.

One area of the current Spurs squad that doesn’t really lend itself to rotation is the goalkeeper position, with Guglielmo Vicario very firmly established as the new number-one under Ange Postecoglou.

The Italian has been outstanding all season, and there would appear to be very little way in for the likes of Fraser Forster, Brandon Austin, and Alfie Whiteman behind him.

In the case of Forster, unfortunately, it’s touch and go as to whether he will even be available for Spurs again this season, after the experienced stopper suffered a fracture in his foot.

But, when one door closes for one player, another door opens for others. Austin was named on the bench against Wolves for Tottenham’s last game, and will likely stay there until Forster is fit again.

Aaron Maguire involved with the first-team

And now, a young keeper from the Spurs youth team, Aaron Maguire, has been spotted in training as he steps up to be the fourth goalkeeper in the sessions at Hotspur Way.

As per a report from Football.London, Spurs usually have “four goalkeepers training on a daily basis,” but with Forster out, Austin and Whiteman have moved up a step in the roster, leaving space for a fourth.

To fill this gap, it appears from training photos that Maguire is in the mix. He was “seen standing in the back of the net as Austin made a save,” and later “tried to stop Dejan Kulusevski scoring” himself.

It’s been great to see so many young players stepping into the first-team setup this season, even if it is just for the odd training session here or there. Hopefully, Maguire can learn a lot from this.
