Tottenham bounced back impressively

On the back of their poor second-half showing against Brighton, Ange Postecoglou’s men came in for plenty of criticism, with the term ‘Spursy’ once again being thrown around in reference to the side’s mental weakness (The Independent).

However, one can argue that the criticism was a bit over the top, considering that Spurs had won five back-to-back games across all competitions leading up to the game.

On Saturday, the Lilywhites showed that the second-half performance against the Seagulls was nothing more than an aberration, being at their devastating best against West Ham, who were put to the sword.

Yves Bissouma’s admission

Bissouma has put the improved performance down to the motivation and drive of the current Tottenham squad, admitting that the standards in training are really high.

When asked about the team’s impressive response against the Hammers, the Mali international told the Review Show on SpursPlay: “I think it is motivation. It’s motivation because of the way we play, the way we train in training, the way we do everything is amazing.

“For me to score a goal, especially for this club is fantastic. If I can score in every game that would be a pleasure for me. The most important is not goals for me, it is to try to make my team win. Today we won, I scored and I’m really happy for that. Yeah, we continue, we’ll see.”

Spurs have set their aims high

It is clear from the noises coming out of the Tottenham camp that internally at Hotspur Way, they believe they are good enough to be challenging at the top of the table this season despite the hiccups they have had so far.

They will thus be keen to string another run of wins together and close the gap with the best sides in the division. If only that Brighton result had ended up with a win, Spurs would only be a point behind Arsenal!
