Zidane reveals Bale didn’t miss Spurs game because of transfer speculation

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has revealed that Gareth Bale missed the pre-season friendly against Spurs because of illness (Mirror).

Many believed that Bale missed the game because of a deterioration of the relationship between Bale and Zidane (Football London) but Zidane has stated that this is not the case.

This comes after the Welshman’s move to Chinese club, Jiangsu Suning fell through last month (Sky Sports).

Bale has won everything to be won at Real Madrid but has never been one of Zidane’s key players and has had to settle for substitute appearances too often during his tenure (BBC News).

Bale showed his quality against Liverpool in the Champions League final last May where he almost single handedly won Madrid the game. However, he was still a fringe player at Madrid again last season.

Spurs have been linked with a sensational move to bring Bale back to the Premier League at the club where he first became recognised as a World Class player (The Express).

While Zidane has said Bale is simply ill, he infamously said earlier this window that he hoped Bale would leave and it is clear there is no love lost between the two (ESPN). This means there are probably other factors at play in Bale missing the game against Spurs.

Bale is a great player who will always be remembered fondly at Spurs, however he is past his best now and would be a huge risk to take because of his high wage demands and injury frequency.
