Zinedine Zidane responds to question about Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen wasted no time this summer when he revealed that he wanted to leave Tottenham Hotspur to seek a new challenge whilst also expressing interest in a move to Real Madrid (Ekstra Bladet).

A move to the Spanish giants failed to materialise before the European transfer window closed on September 2nd with the Dane having to remain in North London until at least January.

With under a year left on his contract at Tottenham, the January transfer window will allow Eriksen to agree a pre-contract with a European club before walking away as a free agent at the end of the campaign.

Tottenham are reported to have offered the playmaker a new contract worth more than £200,000-a-week which would make him the club’s second-highest paid player behind Harry Kane, but Eriksen has instead set his heart on a move to Spain (Daily Mail).

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane was asked about Christian Eriksen along with Ajax’s Donny van de Beek ahead of yesterday’s 1-0 win against Sevilla and remained tight-lipped on a move whilst suggesting it was a decision for the club.

Zidane was quoted by Goal.com as saying at the pre-Sevilla press conference: “Eriksen or Van de Beek? That is a matter for the club,” Zidane said ahead of his side’s trip to Sevilla on Sunday.

“The team is what it is. We are the ones that are here and we will compete with what we have.”
