Tottenham produced one of the greatest comebacks in Champions League history last season to beat Ajax in the semi-final of the Champions League.

Spurs’ hopes of reaching their first-ever Champions League final looked to be over when they found themselves 3-0 behind on aggregate by half time during the second leg in Amsterdam.

Ajax were playing some brilliant football and there was almost a party-like atmosphere at the Johan Cruyff Arena that evening when the Dutch side looked to be on their way to the final.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s men had other ideas after they grabbed two early goals in the second to bring themselves right back into the game before Lucas Moura popped up with the winner with almost the last kick of the game to complete his hat-trick and send the Lilywhites to Madrid.

More than a year on from the semi-final, it appears that some of the Ajax players are still struggling with the defeat.

Hakim Ziyech, who will be joining Chelsea in the summer has now claimed that the Eredivisie champions would have beaten Liverpool in the final had they overcome Spurs.

He is quoted by Sportskeeda as saying: “Certainly we could have beaten Liverpool if we had qualified for the Champions League final last year.”

This is basically like one of the Tottenham players coming out and saying we would have won the final had Liverpool not been handed a soft penalty early on. We will just never know. Besides, if you had asked Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool players who they would have rather faced in the final, I’m sure most of them would have preferred Ajax.
