Ireland's all time top scorer and fourteenth in the all time Prem top scorers list (although likely to be taken over by Harry Kane this season) it is clear Keane knew exactly where the back of the net was.

Playing for Wolves, Coventry, Inter Milan and Leeds United in his early career, it was at Spurs where the Irish striker really made his name. He won Spurs' Player of the Year three times, scored double figures in six consecutive seasons and hit over 100 goals with his first season at the club.

His form earned him a £20m move to Liverpool in July 2008, however after struggling for form, he returned to Spurs just six months later. He scored a further fourteen goals for Spurs before spells with Celtic, West Ham, LA Galaxy and Aston Villa.

Keane last played competitively for Ireland at Euro 2016, before retiring after a friendly against Oman in August of that year. The Irish striker was last seen playing for Indian club ATK under the management of Teddy Sheringham.

Joseph Yobo recently described Robbie Keane as the hardest striker he has ever faced, surely there is no higher accolade than that.

After the Lilywhites’ blistering start to the season, there have been murmurings that this could finally be the year boss Mauricio Pochettino finally breaks their trophy duct.

But when was the last time Spurs won a trophy? It was the 24th February 2008, Spurs ran out as 2-1 winners against Chelsea. The first League Cup Final to be held at the new Wembley Stadium, which Spurs would become very familiar with years later. Here’s who started that day.
