The man with legs made of polystyrene, Woodgate seemingly spent more of his time in the treatment room than on the field. However, when he was fit, the man was a formidable defender and even scored the winner that sent Spurs on to lift the trophy.

Beginning his career with Leeds, he was signed by Newcastle for a fee of £9m. He quickly became a fan favourite and a 2004 UEFA Cup Semi Final against Marseille ensured that this League Cup final was not the first time Woodgate had kept Drogba in his back pocket.

His performances caught the eye of Real Madrid, who signed him for £13.4m. He had to wait an entire season for his debut, where he scored an own goal and was then sent off. In July 2007, he was voted as Madrid's worst signing of the 21st century. This did not deter Spurs who signed the defender for £8m in January 2008 from Middlesbrough.

Woodgate, 38, later had spells with Stoke and a return to Middlesborough, where he remains today as a first team coach.

After the Lilywhites’ blistering start to the season, there have been murmurings that this could finally be the year boss Mauricio Pochettino finally breaks their trophy duct.

But when was the last time Spurs won a trophy? It was the 24th February 2008, Spurs ran out as 2-1 winners against Chelsea. The first League Cup Final to be held at the new Wembley Stadium, which Spurs would become very familiar with years later. Here’s who started that day.
