5 players Tottenham should sell this summer

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Gylfi Sigurdsson

The fifth choice is a difficult one, which for me could be any one of three players. Jake Livermore has done well at Hull and in my opinion may have found his level, meaning accepting a bid in the region of £6-8million may be good business for us. Nacer Chadli, whose signing baffled me at the start of the season, has begun to work well alongside the exciting Christian Eriksen and for that reason may have just earnt another crack at it next season. Should this theory become obviously flawed in the opening months, we should look to move him on in January.

This leaves Gylfi Sigurdsson. The Iceland international has a great work ethic and has popped up with some crucial goals (the late winner against Southampton for example) but is not happy on the bench nor having to play outside his preferred central midfield role. Having shone at both Swansea and Reading, it is a shame to have such a talent sitting on the bench. He will never replace Eriksen in the team in the same way that he could not displace a Modric or a Van Der Vaart, and it may be better, somewhat regrettably, for all parties if he moved on.

To conclude, I understand that every Spurs fan may well have a different list to mine. I can also see the method in arguing for selling the likes of Holtby, Dembele or Lennon, but the names above are who I would move on if it was down to me. I would like Soldado and Lamela to have another chance (to call Lamela a flop when he has a back injury is unfair, as is suggesting he chose to have £30m spent on him), and the new manager will obviously bring in one or two players from elsewhere. Hopefully, it will be his decisions and spending, and Baldini will be let nowhere near the recruitment efforts.
