Analysis: How to play Without Harry Kane

Harry Kane is rumoured to be out for 2 months which spells bad news for our forward line and attention turns to Janssen to for the goals. But how does this affect our forward pressing for the next 8 weeks?

Against Sunderland, Pochettino turned to a narrow forward line with Sissoko and Son playing furthest forward of the number 9 positions. It worked reasonably well, but a lack of shots on goal resulted in a frustrating game to watch for the White Hart Lane faithful. Sonny looked very good when pulling out wide and forcing the full backs out of position but lacked the end product. After Kane made way, Janssen did work very hard but squandered one big chance when he and Lamela pulled clear- skying the ball into my back garden in Edmonton. Ok, maybe that was a slight overreaction; but his choices in front of goal need to improve.

Personally, I haven’t seen enough of the Dutchman to judge him just yet, but I may be looking a little over my shoulder about the failure of Soldado. Janssen has the work ethic and seems to want to play for The Spurs and would suit a loan partnership with Sissoko- as proved for the 15 minute spell on Sunday eve. Son deserves a shot or too, judging on his MOTM performances against Stoke and Sunderland. The fact that he managed to get a goal against Gillingham can only bode well going into tomorrow’s match away to Middlesbrough.
