Big Teams Win Big Games

Six games in and we are second in the league still undefeated. It has been well documented that this is our best start for 51 years. So the big question we need to ask ourselves is… Can we win the league?

I believe we can definitely challenge again but in order for us to win the league we will need to shake off our tag of historically being ‘Nearly Men’ and this can start on Sunday.

Painful memories of ‘Lasagne Gate’ (05/06 Season) and Chelsea effectively knocking us out the Champions league (11/12 Season) still remain in our hearts. The reason we remember them so vividly is because we know that we had Champions league qualification sewn up at various times in the run in but only to fall at the last hurdle AGAIN!

This leads me very conveniently onto last season. Did we overachieve? Yes we did, but considering the position we found ourselves in its fair to say the pressure once again was our Achilles heel. The second half of the game at Stamford Bridge was an example of us not being able to handle the weight of expectation but also game management being two up and in total control. Leicester were deserved winners don’t get me wrong, but I look back at games such as:

Arsenal at home (Leading 2-1 against 10 men on the verge of going top).

West Ham away (A win would of taken us top of the League)

Leicester at home

Post Title Race:

Southampton at Home

Newcastle away

I’ve included the last two games as all we needed was a win to finish above our bitter rivals and secure second place but just like a lot of Eriksen’s out swinging corners, we came up short again.

Now I expect someone in the comments below to point out we won against City twice and United at home, but they weren’t season defining games and both teams last season were out of sorts for large periods.

This season our biggest tests have been arguably Liverpool, Everton and Monaco and I still have doubts regarding whether we can go that one step further this season and finally get married instead of always being the bridesmaid for so many years.

A win against Man City all be it so early in the season, would give our squad the belief and confidence that they can win when it matters and they can maybe start looking at dresses for a potential May Wedding. #COYS
