Cup Congestion

After a fantastic away performance at the Etihad on Sunday Afternoon, it may have been difficult for fans to look towards the cup fixtures almost immediately, but as proven in many a post match interview, manager Mauricio Pochettino always focuses on the next game instantly.

With Fiorentina in the Europa League just two days away, the Tottenham squad will not have had long to rest before setting off to Italy. What is key to the overall success of this youthful side is the way in which the team is rotated and looked after in the remaining three months of the season.

In Europe, it would be advantageous to bring Harry Winks into the fray, along with the newly introduced Europa League squad member and American under 21 international, Cameron Carter Vickers. The addition of just these players, along with the increased influence of Bentaleb, Mason and Onomah, and the side’s alternating full-backs should see Pochettino’s side able to cope with the upcoming fixture congestion.

The Argentine may also play Nacer Chadli as a lone striker in the clubs home FA Cup tie against Crystal Palace, which is sandwiched between the Europa League round of 32. This will allow the Belgian international to get more comfortable with the role he may well be required to play for the rest of the season, depending on the form of Heung-Min Son, and more importantly the fitness of club top scorer Harry Kane.

As the club move into the business end of the season, manager Mauricio Pochettino will earn his stripes. Fans and pundits alike have said that the club have not won anything yet, this much is true, but it is how the team is rotated and set-up which will ultimately affect results and therefore measure the success of Tottenham Hotspur’s season.
