Match Preview: F.C. Paços de Ferreira vs Spurs – Europa Conference League

Last Thursday, Tottenham Hotspur discovered their opponents for the third round Europa Conference League Qualifiers after F.C. Paços de Ferreira bested Northern Irish side, Larne FC over two legs with an aggregate score of 4-1.

The Portuguese team who finished fifth in the Primeira Liga last season, secured themselves European football for the 2021/22 season, but Tottenham supporters hope that it will be very short lived as they face off on the 19th and 26th of August.

The first leg is to be played in the Estádio Capital do Móvel before the Lilywhites host them at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the second match.

Here is everything I know about the Porto-based club…

Paços de Ferreira are a mid-table side and were promoted only three seasons ago. They go into the tie as underdogs but if last season is anything to go by, anything can happen.

There are a few players to look out for…

Douglas Tanque; the Brazilian scored 9 goals and laid on 2 assists in the League last season and could be considered their main attacking threat, standing at 188cm he can make a bit of a nuisance of himself for defenders. He is definitely one to keep quiet.

Nuno Santos; a Benfica academy graduate, he has been loaned out for the 2021/22 season after spending last season with Boavista. He is an attacking midfielder and could potentially be a dangerous player for Paços if he is not dealt with.

Stephen Eustáquio; a midfield general who breaks up play well, he averaged 2.4 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per 90 in the league last season (whoscored.com). He will be trying to nullify Tottenham’s attacking threats.

I expect Tottenham to field a considerably weaker team than the starting XI against Man City.

The team will be littered with a few youngsters, while the likes of Bryan Gil and Ryan Sessegnon will be handed playing time. Fringe players like Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko will likely be in the starting 11 as more senior figures.

Hopefully, Tottenham can get the job done and we will see them advance into the group stages. COYS!
