Opinion: Five players who did Spurs proud against Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur managed to turn around their back-to-back domestic losses by grinding out a win against Southampton today.

However, the Lilywhites did have to do it with ten men for the majority of the match after Serge Aurier’s red card.

Let’s look at the five players who did their side proud today at the new White Hart Lane.

Harry Winks

Started the game a little shaky but really grew into it and ran his socks off for the entirity of his time on the pitch. Tough in the tackle, quick to recycle the ball, and one of the only players who pressed high when possible. He really plays like a boyhood fan.

Tanguy Ndombele

My man of the match. Like Winksy, the effort from Tottenham’s record signing was immense. However, not only did he manage to tackle and pass the ball off to the more creative players, he also drove on as a threat himseld. Ndombele opened the scoring with a lovely swept left-footed effort. Looks to be really finding his feet in the Prem.

Harry Kane

Fed off scraps all day but boy did he make a lot of them! Kane’s first touch was amazing, his physical presence won headers and free-kicks, and his end product is near perfect. One of the best games I have seen him have this season, but it may drift under the radar. Deserved his incredible finish and more.

Danny Rose

I thought, like Winks, Rose started the game a little hit and miss. However, after Spurs went down to ten men, he came alive. He turned defence into attack on his own a number of times, as well as being his usual tough-tackling self. Spurs need more players like him, who guarantee you maximum effort and passion no matter how well they are playing.

Moussa Sissoko

Sissoko made a few errors at right-back, but I thought it was a great effort from him. He was thrown in at the deep end by Aurier with no preparation time, but still managed to do a job for his team. The Frenchman looked shattered by the final minute and I am not surprised one bit.
